Atleast in the cummins world that is. With the cummins you can hold 1250 all day long. Anything over that and you are taking a withdraw from the engine and bank account. How big of a withdraw depends on how hot you go and for how long. With my engine on the rabbit I see 1200 to 1500. Depends on how much boost I run on the LP turbo.

I don't hesitate to use the boost but don't beat on it hard every day or anything like that. If I ever take the head off I'd add ARP studs while in there.

It becomes a serious restriction point if you need something to support more than about 215hp, as that’s all it can handle. The bigger K04 turbocharger offers more air delivery and supports a higher horsepower ceiling. If you’re going to go for as much as you can with bolt-on upgrades, we’d consider this a necessity.
